About Air India

Air India aircraft taking off from an airport runway

Air India began in 1932 as Tata Airlines, founded by JRD Tata, and later became India's national carrier after nationalisation in 1953. In January 2022 it returned to the Tata Group after nearly seven decades of government ownership.

In November 2024, Vistara merged into Air India, combining both airlines' networks and fleets into a single, larger full-service carrier flying across India and to major international destinations.

Air India airline guide: offers, fleet, policies and history

Air India travellers can use this page to compare flight offers, fleet information, services, baggage and travel-policy links, quick facts and airline history before booking.

How to compare Air India flight offers

Start with Air India-specific offers, then compare all-airline credit card, bank, wallet and UPI coupons. The strongest saving depends on your booking platform, route, fare value, discount cap and payment fees.

What to check before booking

Review baggage allowance, cancellation policy, web check-in rules, wheelchair support, travel documents, seat fees and airport terminal details. These details can change the real value of a low base fare.

Air India route and service planning

India's flag carrier, reimagined. Use popular route pages, airport guides and travel tools to compare the full trip, not only the ticket price.
