Almost every flight booking in India now shows more than one discount at the same time: a coupon from the booking site, an instant discount for a particular bank card, a UPI cashback and sometimes a wallet offer. It is natural to assume they add up. In practice most checkouts accept one promo code per booking, and the payment-method discount is often that code. This guide explains how the layers work, which ones normally sit together, and how to test them in the right order so you pay the lowest final amount rather than chasing the biggest headline.
The tables below use the 129 offers that were live in the Deal4Flight dataset on 25 Oct 2026. They show what each site was offering at the time, not a promise about what you will see at checkout. Every row links to the page the offer was taken from, and those terms always win over our summary.
The four layers of a flight discount
A booking can carry up to four kinds of saving. The first is a fare sale run by the airline itself — a reduced base fare that every payment method gets. The second is a coupon from the booking site or airline website, usually entered in a promo-code box. The third is a payment offer funded by a bank, card network, wallet or UPI app, which may need its own code or may be applied automatically when you choose that payment method. The fourth is post-booking value: reward points, cashback credited later, or vouchers for a future trip.
Fare sales and post-booking rewards usually sit alongside the other layers because they are not entered as codes. The conflict is almost always between layers two and three: a site coupon and a bank code both want the single promo-code slot. Some sites show bank offers as a separate selectable list on the payment page, and a few let a site coupon and an automatic bank discount both apply; others replace one with the other without warning. That is why testing matters more than reading banners.
| Booking site | Site coupons | Bank / card | UPI | Wallet |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Adani One | Site coupons:6 | Bank / card:8 | UPI:3 | Wallet:1 |
| Cleartrip | Site coupons:13 | Bank / card:13 | UPI:2 | Wallet:2 |
| EaseMyTrip | Site coupons:2 | Bank / card:1 | UPI:2 | Wallet:2 |
| Ixigo | Site coupons:1 | Bank / card:3 | UPI:3 | Wallet:2 |
| MakeMyTrip | Site coupons:0 | Bank / card:5 | UPI:3 | Wallet:3 |
| Goibibo | Site coupons:4 | Bank / card:1 | UPI:1 | Wallet:3 |
| Paytm Flights | Site coupons:0 | Bank / card:2 | UPI:1 | Wallet:3 |
A site with many entries in more than one column gives you more combinations to test, but it does not mean they combine. Read the column counts as "how many alternatives to try", not "how many discounts you will receive".
Step-by-step: testing offers in the right order
- Fix the flight first. Choose the exact flight, fare type (for example Saver or Flexi), passengers and add-ons before testing any code, so every comparison is on the same basket.
- Note the payable amount with no offer. This is your baseline; every test is measured against it.
- Try the strongest site coupon you qualify for. Check that it is accepted for your sector (domestic or international) and that the minimum booking value is met.
- Remove it and try each payment-method offer you can actually use. Many bank offers apply only on the payment page after you pick the card, so you may need to go one step further than the coupon box.
- Where the site allows both, apply the coupon and then choose the payment method that carries an automatic discount, and compare again.
- Compare final payable amounts, including convenience fees, not the size of the discount line.
Repeat the comparison if you change anything — a different flight, an extra passenger or a seat purchase can push you over or under a minimum booking threshold and change which offer wins.
A worked example from the data
Adani One illustrates the choice well. On 25 Oct 2026 our dataset listed 18 offers for Adani One across coupons, cards, UPI and wallets. Two of them are simple flat discounts with clear thresholds, so the arithmetic is easy to check.

Take a domestic basket of ₹12,000. The UPI offer UPI1000 is stated as flat ₹1,000 off with a minimum of ₹10,000+, so it would take ₹1,000 off that basket. HSBC's domestic Adani One card offer, stated as "flat 12% off (max ₹1,200)", would be worth ₹1,200 at ₹12,000 — but only ₹960 on an ₹8,000 basket. The best choice therefore depends on the fare, which is exactly why the order above starts by fixing the basket.
For a quick version of this arithmetic across every card, wallet and UPI app we list, use the best-offer calculator: choose your payment method, enter the fare and it ranks the listed offers by the saving their own terms give on that amount. Offers whose value depends on slabs or reward points are shown separately so you can read their terms.
Instant discount, cashback or points?
An instant discount reduces what you pay now. Cashback is credited later, often to a wallet or as points, and can carry its own expiry and usage rules. Reward points are worth whatever you can redeem them for. When two offers look the same size, prefer the instant one unless you are sure you will use the cashback before it lapses. When a payment offer is partly instant and partly cashback, count only the instant part when comparing final payable amounts at checkout, and treat the rest as a bonus.
Conditions that quietly break a stack
- Minimum booking value: thresholds are often different for domestic and international bookings, and some apply per passenger.
- Sector restrictions: an offer marked Domestic will not apply to an international itinerary, and some international offers exclude certain countries.
- Card type: a credit card offer will not apply to a debit card from the same bank, and EMI offers usually need the EMI option itself to be selected.
- Day of the week: a few bank offers work only on certain days — see our day-wise calendar.
- Usage limits: many codes are once per card, once per user or once per month.
- Fees: a convenience fee can cancel out a small discount, so look at the total.
When a coupon fails at checkout
If a code is rejected, check the conditions above first. Then confirm the code on the source page — codes are sometimes changed mid-campaign. If the site still refuses a code its own page lists, contact the site's support with a screenshot before paying; Deal4Flight cannot apply or override codes on anyone's checkout.

The short version: fix the basket, test one layer at a time, and compare what you actually pay. Stacking is real when a site allows it, but it is never something to assume.
